Welcome to Week 1 as Waretown UMC kicks off a worship theme and study series based on Francis Chan’s ‘Basic.’ Here a short video introducing this Sunday’s theme ‘Fear God’ and some of my reflections below. What? This doesn’t sound … Continue reading
Ever feel like churches today don’t have anything to offer you? Ever think that churches today just don’t seem to be on the right track? Ever long for a church that inspires you to love and be loved by God and others… a church that gives meaning and purpose to our lives? Join us for BASIC, an inspiring, thought-provoking, and sometimes controversial worship theme around the most exciting truths the Scriptures have to offer and what that means for the church. Based on the series BASIC by Francis Chan.
09/14/2014: More Than Just Awesome:
Sure, God is graceful… and Jesus is our Friend… but God IS the all-powerful creator of the universe. When we have a healthy understanding of God, our awe and respect will have real qualities of fear. It is only through this intense experience that we can really hear the Good News that God loves us and we have nothing to fear.
09/21/2014: Follow Means Follow:
Following Jesus doesn’t mean learning, teaching, talking, or planning about it. It means doing and practicing it. It is the only way to live the Christian life of faith.
09/28/2014: Powered By The Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God continuing promise to be present with us in power and truth and light. The Spirit works in and through US for God’s great purposes and we get to be a part of it. When we try to ‘go it alone’ we don’t get the lives or the church God has planned for us.
10/05/2014: TO BE ANNOUNCED:
10/12/2014: Doing Life Together:
We don’t travel the faith journey alone… in fact, we can’t. God has made it such that we need each other both for growing in the teaching and learning of the faith and in the daily living and practicing as we follow in Jesus footsteps.
10/19/2014: Praying For Life:
We read and say The Lord’s Prayer often… but do we really know what we are asking? Do our prayers reflect the same passion and priorities of that prayer Jesus taught us? What would it mean for our lives and the church if we kicked our prayer life up a couple of notches?
10/26/2014: A Greater Love:
In the old days.. the world was really condemned to failure. Imperfect humankind just couldn’t measure up to God’s perfect standards. When Jesus came… God made a new promise: because of God’s love and grace proven in Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice, humankind would be judged not on whether they are perfect (which no one is) but on their faith and love for Jesus (which anyone can have). This is celebrated in the bread and cup of Holy Communion. And this bread and cup are a constant reminder that we are called to love, serve, and sacrifice for others.
