10 Commandments Jesus’ Remix

Yeah…   I know…   many of you are saying, “Wow, Erik is sure gettin’ a lot of blog mileage out of the 10 Commandments”. Yep. Here is one more…   and probably the most important…   remix:  Jesus is asked:

“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”

He said: “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.(Matthew 22:36-40)

The point of this remix, I think, can be found throughout Jesus teaching: when we love ourselves more than God and more than neighbor (selfishness)…   from this all wrong-headed actions flow.

It’s simple really: love God…   follow God…   realize Gods gifts, plans, and purposes for life…   and we will find meaning, health, purpose and joy. And also: love neighbor (as if ‘neighbor’ were as important as self)…   and we will find good friendships, positive relationships, generosity, companionship, and the ability to make a real difference in the lives of people.

Doesn’t that just beat (hands-down) the stress, worry, strife, and mistakes that come from being selfish?
