Guts!

Guts!

We love to hear stories about people who’ve got guts! The movies we watch, the books we read, the stories of famous people, rich people, faithful people…   all have guts! as part of the story.

Guts! was part of the story of David and Goliath (even if you’ve never stepped foot in a church you’ve probably heard about David and Goliath). David was a scrawny kid…   Goliath was a huge, muscular, scarred-up, experienced warrior. Goliath used to come out in front of the army of the Jews and taunt them…   dare them…   to try and attack him. No one would because whoever did, it was thought would be killed instantly.

One day when Goliath came out to taunt and challenge…   David showed up and stood in front of him. David was ticked off because the Jewish soldiers were all too scared to fight…   he couldn’t understand how they could just stand by and watch Goliath scare the faith and hope right out of the people. David showed guts! and said (1 Samuel 17:45):

You come to me with sword and spear and javelin; but I come to you in the name of God, whom you have defied.

Most of us know the rest of the story…   he whips a couple rocks into Goliath’s noggin and while he’s out cold David cuts his head off (ok…   maybe you didn’t remember THAT part…   but its in the book). Through the ages ‘David and Goliath’ has been a symbol of guts! against giants. We all have those ‘giant’ problems in our lives, challenging us and taunting us.

If you are tired of having your faith and hope scared out of you by the Goliath giants in your life…   show some guts! and I’ll bet you find God’s strength and presence with you in a powerful way.
