Don’t worry about tomorrow!
This is advice you would expect from your brother-in-law… not Jesus. But, yes, in fact, Jesus does give this advice in Matthew 6:34:
So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Usually, people like our brother-in-law give this advice as a PLAN for living… but that can only lead to poor choices and lack of long-term goals.
Jesus, on the other hand, gives this advice as a RESPONSE to living… a response to the fact that God is working in and through our lives. We don’t ‘worry about tomorrow’ because even if it is not what we planned for or wanted… we know God is working in it.
“Don’t worry about tomorrow” isn’t permission to ‘do whatever’, but an act of faith… knowing that we are part of something bigger than ourselves… and directed by God.
