Neither shall you steal (Deuteronomy 5:19)
What can I say? We know this one too! Not much new I can add. There are all kinds of stealing… unless we are card carrying criminals, chances are, we make excuses for our ‘little steals’.
Stealing is taking something that we didn’t pay for, failing to give over something we have an obligation to give. Each of us should make a list of what we’ve stolen… its probably a longer list than we would like to admit. The root cause of much stealing, theologically at least, is wanting more than we have… and being willing to do anything to get it.
God’s plan for us is to be peaceful, content, and live simply and generously. Not stealing or hell-bent on ‘making’ our fortunes… but living and giving in a way that brings hope and joy to us and the world around us.
Sounds better than stealing doesn’t it?
