Can Christmas Still Change the World?: Love All

“Are you tired of how consumerism has stolen the soul of Christmas? This year, take a stand. Join the groundswell of Christ-followers who are choosing to make Christmas what it should be- a joyous celebration of Jesus’ birth that enriches our hearts and the world around us, not a retail circus that depletes our pocketbooks and defeats our spirits”. From Advent Conspiracy by Rick McKinley, Chris Seay, and Greg Holder.

Join Waretown UMC this season as we discover and explore through Advent Conspiracy how Christmas can still change the world

Prayer of the Week

(pray this prayer each day this week)

God of Grace,

Your love reaches every corner of the world. It settles in the low places that need your hope and grace. It settles in the low places of my life and reminds me that you are present. Heal me of all the wounds and scars that come from this world. This world which operates on selfishness and greed often hurts and neglects those in need of love. This week help me receive the unending, undying love of Jesus you gave to the world for Christmas. And, help me to give this love in all the low places of my neighborhood and world. Help me to be this love in a selfish world. Help me be this love to those with wounds and scars who are hurting and neglected.

In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Read Isaiah 35:1-6 & Matthew 25:31-45.

Week 4: Questions for Reflection

Love is not an abstract concept meant to be believed in and agreed to. Love is expressed in action. Love is not an uncontrolled emotional response to certain people close to us. Love is a choice, a grace-filled response to all people because they are just like us. Don’t just absorb the love of God in Jesus at Christmas and call it a successful holiday season. Express God’s love in Jesus by loving and serving others…   especially the stranger…   especially the person in need

Where is your love put to greatest use during Christmas? For most of us it is expended ‘inward’ on gifts and parties and holiday activities for and with our inner circle of friends and family. What could you do to turn some of that care and concern, love in action, outward?

What is one way to can express the love of God in Jesus in your neighborhood? What Christmas gift can you give to someone hurting and in need?

Maybe you feel like it’s too late this year…   you’ve already spent yourself out and you didn’t get a chance to ‘change the world’. Never fear. Mark out the 25th day of each month this year and remind yourself that ‘loving all’ in the spirit of Christmas can happen all year long.
