Nothing says: “I’m starting fresh” like a good house cleaning. Barnegat Anew is cleaning out its closets and having a Yard Sale on Saturday on Water St. in Barnegat. Come on out and say ‘Hi’.
We could all benefit from a good house cleaning. I’m looking around my house and there is stuff… everything from mail to books to furniture to toys that just need to go. I’m looking at myself too and seeing that there are some habits, perspectives, expectations, and projects that just need to go as well.
It’s no accident that Jesus’ ministry and teaching had a lot to do with ‘making people clean’. Sure, mostly such references occur around ‘healings’, but, on the one hand, getting our houses and lives in order IS cleansing. On the other hand, there is a sense in which the ‘cleaning’ God provides is directly applicable to our life and lifestyle.
In and around John 15:3 Jesus is teaching that people who follow after God will grow in faith and life if they continually draw upon his life, example, and teaching. He says:
You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you…
In short, our own personal ‘cleaning’ can be accomplished by a relationship with God in Jesus. All those stubborn messes can begin to be cleaned away… as we take seriously the life and path of faith exampled by Jesus.
If you’ve got stubborn messes… this may be the tough cleaner you need!
