If not NOW… when?
If not HERE… where?
These are questions we may want to ask when faced with the choice of facing something in our lives… or putting it off. We all have these things in our lives that we know we should confront. Maybe it’s a conversation with someone we haven’t spoken to in years. Maybe it’s a bad habit, addiction or secret that has poisoned our lives. Maybe it’s a fear that has kept us from living fully.
Whatever it is… chances are it has been easier NOT to deal with it, even though we know, eventually, we have to. If we don’t, whatever it is will eventually bring us down. So, the questions remain: If not now, when? If not here, where?
Jesus speaks to the issue of setting things straight before being brought down in Matthew 5:25-26:
Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are on the way to court with him, or your accuser may hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.
The wisdom is this: deal with it now… or it will bite you later.
We’ll be glad we did!
