I’ve been trying to wake up early.
For the last week or so I’ve been getting up around 6am (yeah… the blog posts come out at 5am because I auto-publish… sorry). Throughout my life I have always met people who were super-successful, super-responsible, super-consistent, and super-good at what they do, and one thing they always had in common was… they woke up early!
So recently, I’ve been interested in it… both because I need a few more hours in the day to get things done… and… I want to be responsible, successful, consistent and good. I think part of the whole thing is that ‘waking up early’ requires a personal commitment. Now, I’m not talking about waking up early because I ‘have to’ for work. I’m talking about waking up early purely for the reason of bettering myself.
When we do things that are difficult, even though we don’t ‘have to’ but because we want to be better… we are on the way to a better life. It is true for stuff like waking up early… and its true for the faith life as well. Jesus was often found ‘up early’:
In the morning, while it was still very dark, Jesus got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. (Mark:1:35)
Jesus… like so many other admirable people through the years… exhibited the good habit of ‘waking up early. If we were to study the world’s most successful and influential people, I think we would find that a large number of them woke up early.
I’m going to try and get there as well.
