Fit

When I don’t get good physical exercise… I feel like junk.

Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

The words ‘body’, ‘mind’, and ‘spirit’ are often put together, and for good reason: they are very closely interconnected. What happens in one area affects the others. If we are feeling like junk, we may have to sift through all three before we find the root of the problem.

For me, I have found solid and consistent physical exercise to be a foundation for positive change in my life: I eat, sleep, think, feel, plan, dream, and pray a lot better.

The great prophet Isaiah encouraged his listeners with God’s great love for them. And, when he described the mental and spiritual results of having faith in God, it should not be surprising, he did so using physical fitness imagery (Isaiah 40:31):

those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint

When I begin my concentrated time of change and growth, on September 1st, the very first thing I will do (after a time of prayer)… is go to the gym.
