As if I wasn’t busy enough… now I’ve got a bird stuck in my garage.
When I say ‘stuck’, I really mean that the bird can’t seem to find his way out. The truth is… I’ve got the garage door open and the back door to the garage open… but the little guy just can’t seem to let go of his fear. He keeps fluttering around up in the rafters and hiding on top of boxes and stuff… he’s too scared to fly DOWN a little bit in order to get out. And poking at him with a 2×4 to ‘herd’ him towards the door has just made matters worse.
In this bird’s quest for safety… in his attempt to ‘save’ himself… he very well may die from lack of food and water trapped in the garage by his own fear. If he just let go for a minute and sailed down out of the rafters and out the huge garage door opening… he will live.
Does fear have you like that? I’ll confess that a lot of times fear tries to get me like that. Jesus has a little wisdom for his followers regarding fear (Luke 12:25-26):
And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest?
How many of us are stuck in the rafters because of our fear? How many of us are starving and withering away in captivity because we haven’t had the courage to sail down into freedom?
I hope the bird makes it out… and I hope we do too.
