Full Life

I hate to be the one to say it but… summer is starting to come to an end.

Sure… it still hot, the kids are still home, but the end is coming. The sun doesn’t rise quite so early or set quite so late as it did back in June. The trees and grass and flowers are now beginning to dry and brown ever so slightly.

Many of us look forward to summer all year long, but it seems to come and go so quickly. If we are not careful, we don’t live summer to its fullest… we may miss or pass up opportunities because we think, “I’ve got all summer”. When fall comes in September we might look back and say, “I wish I had done more… enjoyed more… relaxed more”.

Now the good news… its only August 10th… there still IS some time. It’s time to get out and do those things we have neglected so far this summer.

The seasons of life pass much the same way, and if we are not careful, we may miss or pass up life opportunities. What’s your biggest ‘I shoulda…’? Many folks I have talked to have mentioned things relating to personal peace and loving relationships as their biggest ‘shoulda’s’: I shoulda spent more time with those I love, I shoulda kicked that drug or alcohol habit, I shoulda been treated for that depression, I shoulda played more and worked less… I should, shoulda, shoulda.

One of the striking features of Jesus’ life and teaching is the focus on personal peace and loving relationships. Many of his teachings can be paraphrased: “love God and love others”, “serve rather than be served”, “don’t let bad habits gain a foothold”, “don’t let good habits fall apart”, and “measure success by how well you loved others”.

In John (10:10) he says: I came that you may have life, and have it abundantly.

Now the Good News… we still have TODAY… and Jesus is still in the business of leading the way to abundant life… life to the fullest.

It’s time to get out and do those things we have neglected so far in life.
