Giving and Receiving: Christmas Thought of the Day (6 of 25)

We all know that Christmas is about GIVING not receiving right?

But, what we may not know is that it’s not really about giving and receiving the ‘stuff’ or ‘things’ we usually count as gifts. Whether we are talking about a stocking stuffer like a new toy car or a real-life car in the driveway with a big red bow…   this is NOT the giving and receiving of Christmas.

The life of Jesus starts out in a very humble way (as a baby in a manger), and it continues to be the greatest example of humble sacrifice the world has ever known. Jesus gave HIMSELF. He lived and served and sacrificed so that others (and indeed all the world) would be blessed. When we think about giving…   I mean really giving…   we can’t help but come face to face with the fact that no amount of giving and receiving ‘stuff’ or ‘things’ will make us or others happy, or make the world a better place.

To really be in the ‘Christmas Spirit’ is to give ourselves to serve and bless others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself   (Philippians 2:5,7-8)
