We’ve heard it said before: “if you don’t have your health you don’t have anything”. Wealth, fame, beauty, status or any other thing we strive after in this world doesn’t really mean much if we don’t have health. Of course, we are not always in control of when we are well and when we are sick… and family (and other relationships) help us through difficult times of sickness or injury.
As we face another New Year and new start… many of us want to strive for health and wellness. This could be the desire to diet (lose a few pounds), exercise (to become more fit), or maybe you are already facing a serious illness (depression, cancer, addiction, injury).
God does NOT always promise a full healing of everything that afflicts us here and now (although such healing is possible)… but God does promise to be present with us as we suffer the trials of being unwell, and pledges to bring us to a place in which we are either healed… or at peace with that which afflicts us.
We may not be in control of what it is that afflicts us… but we do have the opportunity to DO something:
Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed. (Hebrews 12:12-13)
When we ACT in a way that partners with God we open our lives up for both healing and peace. As we face this coming year let’s pray, get to know God (by reading Scripture, going to church, talking to faithful Christians, etc.), and let ‘loving God’ and ‘loving others’ direct our decisions each day.
If you want to start the walk of faith this year… let me know (email, call, facebook).
