I Don’t Know… What Part Do I Play?

In these tough economic times…   there are a lot of people looking for jobs.

If you have done any ‘job searching’ lately, you know that its probably about 20% opportunity and 80% persistent, intentional, action. We know that opportunities and leads mean almost NOTHING unless we get out there and follow up: make phone calls, interview, network, develop a kickin’ resume, call people back, get additional training, follow up with people we’ve met, ‘sell’ ourselves again and again and again. We know that if we just sit around WAITING for something to happen to us…   NOTHING ever happens.

It is the same way with the life of faith. So, often we sit around WAITING for God to DO something for us…   or do something TO us, and then, when nothing happens, we sit around wondering where the heck God is.

God never planned for our relationship with God to be a ‘one-way street’. The way God often chooses to work is to CALL us to act, EMPOWER us with God’s Spirit, but REQUIRE us to ACT FIRST! Look at this passage from Paul (one of our greatest Christians) in his letter to the church at Philippians (Philippians 2:12-13):

work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for God’s good pleasure.

After all…   we are all at our best when we are STRIVING forward…   not just waiting around.
