Joy to the World

Wouldn’t we all like to always be healthy and well?

Maybe more than any other vision of ‘the perfect life or ‘the perfect place’ is one in which people don’t get sick. What could be more joyful than a place in which we are always healthy…   always well.

We know that the world we live in is not like that. We all get sick from time to time, many of us also deal with chronic illness or pain, and then there are the big catastrophic illnesses and diseases that we all fear.

It is no accident that part of God’s promise and plan is to someday wipe away all sickness:

then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. (Isaiah 35:6)

Until that day we have the next best thing: God promises to be present with us for comfort and courage, for peace and joy in the midst of a crazy (and crazy scary) world.

This is at the heart of the Christmas message: “Joy to the world… the Lord is come”.
