Life is Hard

Some things are just hard.

Getting up every day and going to work (whatever that work may be)… is hard.

Sticking to that diet or exercise routine… hard

Quittng those bad habits and negative thought patterns… super hard.

People spend dollars and dollars on all that stuff that promises ‘quick and easy’… books, cd’s, dvd’s, classes, mentors, teachers, etc., but chances are, the negative thing that’s got us isn’t quick or easy to shake.

You won’t find any ‘quick fixes’ in the Bible… which may be one reason why some people choose to ignore its teaching. It’s always ‘straight shooting’ and ‘hard truth’ on the one hand, and promises renewal, health, and love on the other. It’s hard, but worth it… and one of the Christian ‘secrets’ to success has always been: community. You see, we all get together, realize we’ve got the same problems and weaknesses, and encourage one another and stick together until we make it.

Here is what Paul writes in the Book of Ephesians (which is a letter of teaching and encouragment to one of his churches). This is a super-abbreviated, adapted, cut-and pasted Chapter 4:17-24:

Now this I affirm and insist on in Christ: you must no longer live in the futility of your minds: darkened in understanding, alienated from the life of God because of ignorance and hardness of heart, having lost all sensitivity, and greedy to practice every kind of impurity. That is not the way you learned Christ! For surely you have heard about him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus. You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Hard teaching… for some junk in life that is just as hard.

Do you need a community to help you through… look us up!
