5th Week: Marching Orders
Prayer of the Week
(pray this prayer each day this week)
You alone are God… and we are not. When we try and do things under our own power and according to our own wisdom we do not succeed. Only in giving control over to you do we become strong. Where we are weak, you promise to make us strong. Where we are confused you promise to be our wisdom. Where we are hopelessly lost you promise to lead us by light and truth. When we leave ourselves in your hands not only do we accomplish great things in your name, but we also become an example to the rest of the world of your power and presence. This week help me give up control of one thing in my life through which you want to show your power.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Week 5: Questions for Reflection
It is our human nature to try and find wisdom, joy, success, and even salvation by our own power and ingenuity. Try as we might we never quite reach it. We either fall short and feel like a failure or come close and find we still feel strangely ‘empty’ and unsatisfied. True fulfillment comes in surrendering ourselves completely to God:
What have you tried and tried and tried to achieve on your own but just never really have been able to do?
Is this thing something that fits into God’s will and plan? If you believe so, what might happen if you give this thing over to God? If not, what could you take up in its place to honor God?
As Christians we are called to share our faith with others. Sadly, this has often come to mean just telling people about Jesus, inviting them to church, and then being let down when they don’t believe or come. What would happen if you simply let Gods power shine in your life by giving up control? Then, you would be an example for others to be inspired to follow Jesus.
This week, ‘let go and let God’ in some area of your life. See if you can notice the subtle and not so subtle power shift that happens when God takes control. Give God the glory and follow wherever God leads!
