Mission Friend-Makers: Tip of the Week 5/4/15

There are many stories of Jesus healing people in the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). He healed blindness, lameness, demon possession, mental illness, and paralysis. If we are to follow Jesus…   we have to be healers too!

WHAT!? Yes, we have to be healers too. But, it’s not likely that any of us are going to be doing any miraculous healing of others (you might…   but its really rare). So, how can we be healers? When we make friends and develop positive, healthy relationships of encouragement, support, and inspiration…   people’s lives are healed of loneliness, depression, negativity, low self-esteem, etc. Isn’t that powerful healing? WE CAN DO THIS!

One of the most common ways we experience uplifting time with our friends is sharing a meal together. There are many stories in the four gospels in which Jesus is sharing meals with others and building relationships. He didn’t just to miracle healings…   he also healed people the ‘old-fashioned way’ by being with them in-person.

Whether its lunch out at the diner, a backyard barbecue, or having some people over for dinner…   friendships are enjoyed and developed over meals. The really cool thing about it is that we can have a meal with anyone…   all we have to do is plan it and invite someone.

Tip of the Week

This week pick a day, time, place, and person (or a few people) you would like to get to know better and invite them to lunch, a cup of coffee, a barbecue, or a meal at your home. If we make a practice of inviting people to eat with us…   we will build and strengthen new friendships capable of healing.
