Pray and Work

I’m excited…   Sunday I’ll be preaching at Waretown UMC. (come check us out at 9am or 11am)

We will be discovering the message of Luke 18:1-8. It’s a teaching parable in which Jesus encourages people to work and pray consistently. The story is about a widow who keeps asking a corrupted judge to grant her justice…   he finally does because, he says, she keeps bothering him.

Jesus uses the story to highlight a few truths about God. First, God cares about us. Second, God cares about ‘justice’. Third, God cares about our prayers. If the widow could bother a corrupted judge enough to get justice…   how much more could we expect God to be fighting on our side when we ‘keep on keepin’ on’ with God. The conclusion of the teaching is this:

will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them

Many of us have had, or are having, bad things happen…   and we need God’s help. Many of us are heartbroken looking at the injustices affecting the people we love…   or people around the world. Our choices are: A) sit around and doubt; B)close our eyes and hope it all goes away; C) pray and work towards a solution.

The right answer is C. The hardest answer is C.

Let’s pray and get to work.
