What’s your prison?

ok… come on… you know what I am talking about. Sure, it’s an over used expression… that we each have something that keeps us locked up. But, it is true nonetheless. Fear, doubt, debt, a bad relationship, addiction, etc. So, what’s your prison?

We are in Acts 5 (still!) and just after the apostles ticked off the authorities… again, they are thrown into prison. But during the night they:

arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors, brought them out, and said, “Go, stand in the temple and tell the people the whole message about this life.”

Whatever our prison… God is waiting to throw open the doors in the midst of our gatekeepers and set us free. There is one small catch… we must then go and “tell the people the whole message about this life”. As much as the prisoner may speak, their voice never makes it beyond the walls and bars. But one who has been freed… they have a story to tell.

So do you… and so do I, once we move through those open prison doors. If you read on in Acts 5 you will notice quickly that while the doors of the prison were opened easily… there were still dangerous guards and condemning verdicts ahead for the apostles. So too it is with us whatever they may look like: a tough decision, a sacrifice, being alone, facing a fear. Not an easy road… but a freedom road. And I think we can all live with that.
