We are all LUI ‘living under the influence’.
Depending on what is influencing us though determines whether this is a crime or a celebration.
Many of us live under the influence of some pretty ugly stuff: poor self-image, addiction, shame, fear, anxiety, depression, worry, hate, workaholism, keeping-up-with-the-Joneses, selfishness, lust, and many more.
What would it feel like to be free of those influences, to be healed from the effects of those influences? What would it feel like to be caught up in some greater, healthier, more inspiring way of living? Where can we find and embrace that type of influence?
Paul describes this ‘influence’ as none other that the Kingdom of God (aka Kingdom of Light, Kingdom of the Son). Our lives thrive when we say YES to God and begin to follow in God’s ways. In doing this we gain wisdom and knowledge, receive grace, and grow in strength and endurance.
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[f] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Being ‘redeemed’ from the ugly stuff (aka the Dominion of Darkness) and celebrating in the light and life of God is the kind of ‘LUI’ I want to be accused of!
