I don’t like going to the doctor.
I’m always afraid that the doctor will find something wrong with me. Furthermore, usually, I am uncomfortable that the doctor will inevitably find something wrong because I haven’t been doing what I should, or that I have been doing what I shouldn’t.
Maybe that why I almost never go to the doctor 🙂
But, is that the right answer? No, of course not. Doctors are there to help us maximize health. Generally, when our health is failing and our bad habits are growing… we avoid the doctor, which just makes all of it worse.
There is a quote in the addiction recovery community: “we are only as sick as our secrets”.
In both Luke 8 and Luke 12 we read a very similar sentence:
For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light.
In Luke 8 Jesus mentions it in the context of God’s will and plan… no matter how much it may be kept hidden, it will eventually ‘come out’. In Luke 12 Jesus mentions it in the context of the evil of the religious leaders of his day… no matter how much they try and hide their ‘dark side’ eventually it will be made public and plain.
The moral of the story is this… nothing stays ‘secret’ forever. If we give up some of them right now… who knows… we may be giving up current sickness for future health.
