There are many common phrases that describe momentum in the English language… some are positive… and some are negative:

Positive
We are ON A ROLL!!!
This thing is really TAKING OFF!!!
Boy… that team is ON FIRE!!!

Negative
The problem is SNOWBALLING!!!
He is SPIRALING OUT OF CONTROL!!!
It’s all PILING UP!!!!

One thing that all of the phrases speak to is the fact that things can take on a life of their own. On the negative side… temptations, irresponsibility, bad choices, and lack of boundaries and restraint work together for ill, and when something starts to go bad… I mean REALLY go bad… the catastrophe cannot be traced back merely to those ingredients. Similarly, on the positive side… hard work, discipline, good choices, and opportunity work together for good, but when something takes off… I mean REALLY takes off… its level of success cannot be traced back merely to those ingredients.

One pretty sure method for success is imitating those whom we admire. If you want to become rich… do what rich people do. If you want to become healthy… do what healthy people do. If you want to become happy… do what happy people do.

Sounds simple? Yep… simple but not easy. Paul gives us a reminder of this in his letter to the Philippians (3:17):

Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us.

The key for both good and bad results in life is that they build and grow upon consistent actions… keep doing bad and life spirals downward quicker and quicker… keep doing good and life spirals up bigger and better.

Simple… but not easy.
